HVAC Troubleshooting Tips

3 Ways to Troubleshoot Your HVAC System

There is nothing as frustrating as having your HVAC equipment fail during a relatively cold season in Huntsville. It may render your home inhabitable and uncomfortable for you and your family. Some of the potential problems that you may come across with your HVAC equipment include a malfunctioning furnace or even a highly inefficient system that consumes a lot of energy. Whenever you experience some of these HVAC issues, it should be your priority to troubleshoot the system for potential problems to be rectified.

1. Check the Air Filters

Air filters do the incredibly important role of filtering out any debris that could block the system. Sometimes, due to poor air quality, the air filters may filter out too much debris and clog the pipes. This happens because airflow in the pipes gets obstructed, and the system then fails to perform as expected. Checking the air filters often and replacing them before they get too dirty will prevent potential breakdowns of your HVAC equipment.

2. Inspect the Pipes

HVAC pipes are always insulated from the elements, thereby helping to conserve energy. When troubleshooting your HVAC system, you should inspect the pipes to ensure that the insulation is still intact. You may also want to look out for additional problems, such as leakages and kinks in the pipes that will obstruct the proper flow of air in the unit. For a thorough job, you should consider blowing high-pressure air into the pipes to ensure that there are no clogs in the ductwork.

3. Replace the Thermostat

Your HVAC thermostat is a crucial component that regulates the turning on and off of the system. Sometimes, this thermostat may malfunction. Such an error may cause the unit to run continuously or even fail to run at all. Troubleshooting the thermostat or possibly replacing it with a programmable model will keep the equipment running properly.
